Police Charge Man Saturday Night, Northwest, D.C., Pistol Whipping

WASHINGTON, DC.- On Saturday, a 45-year-old Washington, D.C., man was taken into custody and jailed after being charged with beating a man with a handgun inside a Northwest, D.C., residence.
According to Interim D.C. Metropolitan Police Chief Jeffery W. Carroll, on Saturday, January 3, 2026, just shortly after 11:30 p.m., members of the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department responded to a report of an assault at a residence located on the 1400 Block of Euclid Street in Northwest, D.C.
Upon arrival, Police Officers learned that the victim and the suspect, identified as Niwatilgu Anthony Long, 45, of Northwest, D.C., became involved in an argument inside the residence. The argument quickly escalated with Long pulling out a handgun and striking the victim with the gun. The victim was able to stop the assault. Long was quickly taken into custody at the scene. Police Officers recovered the gun and quickly learned that the handgun had been reported stolen out of another jurisdiction.
Following being taken into custody, Long was formally charged with one count of Assault with a Dangerous Weapon; Carrying a Pistol Without a Permit; and Receiving Stolen Property. Long was processed on the charges and was remanded to the D.C. Central Detention Facility pending future court proceedings in the Superior Court of the District of Columbia.
