Police Charge Sayreville Teen In Friday Night Fatal Shooting Death Of 17-Year-Old Boy

SAYREVILLE, NJ.- On Saturday, a 16-year-old Sayreville, New Jersey, boy was taken into custody and jailed after being charged in connection with fatally gunning down a 17-year-old East Brunswick, New Jersey, boy, in what Police are calling a targeted shooting that occurred late Friday night in Sayreville, New Jersey.
According to Middlesex County Prosecutor Linda Estremera, on Saturday, January 10, 2026, the 16-year-old East Brunswick, New Jersey, teen was formally charged as a juvenile with one count of first-degree Murder; second-degree Unlawful Possession of a Weapon; second-degree Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose; and Armed Riot.
The arrest and charges stem from an incident that began on Friday, January 9, 2026, when, just minutes before 11:00 p.m., members of the Sayreville Police Department responded to a 911 Emergency Call reporting a shooting on Wood Edge Court in the Parlin section of Sayreville, New Jersey.
Upon arrival, Police Officers located a 17-year-old East Brunswick, New Jersey, boy having succumbed to a gunshot wound. The teen was subsequently pronounced deceased at the scene by Emergency Medical Services personnel.
During the initial investigation, Detective Mark Nairooz of the Sayreville Police Department and Detective Ryan Kirsh of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office quickly identified the 16-year-old boy as the shooter, who was known to the victim prior to the shooting.
The teen was processed on the charges and remanded to the Middlesex County Juvenile Detention Center, pending a preliminary hearing in the Middlesex County Superior Court Family Law Division in New Brunswick, New Jersey.
