TRENTON, NJ.- Last Wednesday, following an investigation, a 35-year-old Bridgeton, New Jersey, man, and accused child predator was taken into custody and jailed after being charged with sexually assaulting a 12-year-old Trenton, New Jersey girl on multiple occasions late last year, in the City of Trenton.

According to Mercer County Prosecutor Janetta D. Marbrey, Alex Torres-Lopez, 35, of Bridgeton, New Jersey, has been formally charged with one count of first-degree Aggravated Sexual Assault; one count of second-degree Sexual Assault; and multiple counts of Endangering the Welfare of A Child for Possession and Distribution of Child Pornography.

The charges stem from an investigation that began on Monday, January 5, 2026, when members of the Trenton Police Department contacted the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit after a 12-year-old Trenton, New Jersey, girl reported that she had been sexually assaulted by an individual, who had contacted her over social media instant messaging applications, and an investigation was launched.

During the ensuing investigation, Detectives of the Mercer County Special Victims Unit were to identify Torres-Lopez as the alleged assailant, and that he had met the child on the social media platforms Snapchat and Roblox. Further investigation uncovered that on multiple occasions in the fall of 2025, Torres-Lopez met the child in Trenton, New Jersey, where they engaged in sexual intercourse. Detectives also uncovered that Torres-Lopez had the child send him sexually explicit digital images and video of herself.

On Wednesday, January 7, 2026, Torres-Lopez was taken into custody without incident at his home in Bridgeton, New Jersey. He was processed on the charges and was remanded to the Mercer County Correctional Center pending future court appearances in Mercer County Superior Court in Trenton, New Jersey.
