NEWARK, NJ.- Late last week, a 46-year-old Newark, New Jersey, man learned he will have to die in New Jersey State Prison before he can serve his additional six decades for gunning down four people, one fatally, on a Newark, New Jersey, street back in April of 2023.

On Friday, January 16, 2026, Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens, II, reported that Antuane Gregory, 46, of Newark, New Jersey, appeared in Essex County Superior Court and was sentenced by Superior Court Judge Harold W. Fullilove, Jr., to Life in State Prison, plus 60 years for his conviction for the shooting death of Corey Beasley, 43, of Newark, New Jersey, and wounding another four individuals

On October 10, 2025, following a trial before Superior Court Judge Fullilove, a jury found Gregory guilty of first-degree Murder; two counts of first-degree Attempted Murder; three counts of second-degree Aggravated Assault, and related weapons offenses.

During the trial, the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office proved beyond a reasonable doubt that on April 15, 2023, Gregory started a verbal altercation on the 400 Block of Leslie Street in the City of Newark, New Jersey. During the dispute, Gregory pulled out a handgun and opened fire on a group of five people.

Mr. Beasley was struck four times, once in the back, once in his right leg, and twice in his left leg, and would later succumb to his injuries. Three additional victims sustained multiple gunshot wounds and survived their injuries. A fifth victim was fired upon but was not struck by the gunfire.

Assistant Prosecutor Meredith Monan, who tried the case with Assistant Prosecutor Monica Calderon, said, “This lengthy sentence delivers justice for the victim’s family and the four additional victims. It also makes clear that this kind of reckless, callous violence will not be tolerated in our communities.”
