WASHINGTON, DC.- On Tuesday, a 14-year-old boy was taken into custody and formally charged in connection with allegedly robbing a victim of his jacket earlier that evening in the City’s Navy Yard section of Southeast, D.C.

According to Interim D.C. Metropolitan Police Chief Jeffery Carroll, on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, just shortly after 8:30 P.M., members of the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department responded to a 911 Emergency Call reporting a robbery on the 1000 Block of First Street in Southeast, D.C.

Upon arrival, Responding Police Officers located a victim who reported that while walking on the 1000 Block of First Street, he was approached by two young suspects who demanded his jacket. After a brief struggle, the victim complied, and the two teen suspects fled the scene with his jacket.

Based on a description provided by the victim and area video surveillance footage, Police Officers and Detectives were able to locate and arrest a 14-year-old Southeast, D.C., boy. Following being taken into custody, the teen was formally charged with one count of Robbery by Force.

The investigation remains active and ongoing as Police continue the search for the second suspect. Anyone with information regarding this investigation or who may have knowledge as to the identity or whereabouts of the second suspect is urged to contact the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department at (202) 727-9099 or text your information to the Department’s TEXT TIP LINE at 50411. All calls and information will be kept confidential.

Interim Chief Carroll would like to thank the D.C. Metropolitan Transit Police for their assistance in the investigation and apprehension of the suspect.

“The rules of the court require us to include a statement that states: As in adult criminal cases, the charges outlined in this publication are merely accusations, and a juvenile defendant and or defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond reasonable doubt.”
