ABSECON, NJ.- On Friday, a 44-year-old Absecon, New Jersey, man learned he will most likely die in New Jersey State Prison after being convicted of sexually assaulting multiple children back in 2023, in Absecon, New Jersey.
According to Atlantic County Prosecutor William E. Reynolds, on Friday, January 23, 2026, following a two-week trial in Atlantic County Superior Court before Superior Court Judge Donna Taylor, a jury found Alfonso Chavez, 44, of Absecon, New Jersey, guilty of two counts of first-degree Aggravated Sexual Assault; three counts of second-degree Sexual Assault; and three counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child.
Following the jury returning their findings of guilt, Judge Taylor accepted the verdict and scheduled sentencing for later this spring, following a mandatory psychosexual evaluation. At the time of sentencing, Chavez will face a mandatory minimum of 25 years and up to life in New Jersey State Prison. If released from prison, Chavez would be additionally subject to parole supervision for life and be required to register as a sex offender, pursuant to Megan’s Law registration requirements.
The conviction stems from an investigation that resulted in Chavez being arrested and charged in December 2023 for sexually assaulting multiple children in Absecon, New Jersey.
Atlantic County Prosecutor Reynolds commended the investigative work of the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit, the Absecon Police Department, and Chief Assistant Prosecutor David Ruffenach, which led to Chavez’s successful prosecution.
