NEWARK, NJ.- Last Thursday, a 67-year-old Hillsdale, New Jersey, woman, and former Paterson, New Jersey, doctor learned she will be spending over seven years in federal prison after being sentenced for her previously entered guilty plea to prescribing oxycodone pain medication to patients he never examined.

According to U.S. Senior Counsel Philip Lamparello, on Thursday, January 22, 2026, Lisa Ferraro, 67, of Hillsdale, New Jersey, appeared in the U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey and was sentenced by U.S. District Court Judge Susan D. Wigenton to 87 months in federal prison, to be followed by three years of supervised release, after previously pleading guilty to one count of Knowingly and Intentionally Conspiring and Agreeing with Others to Distribute a Schedule II Controlled Substance, Oxycodone.

According to documents filed with the District Court, beginning in January 2019 and lasting through September 23, 2023, Ferraro, who practiced internal medicine in Paterson, New Jersey, until her arrest in October 2023, participated in a conspiracy to prescribe oxycodone and opioid pain medication to individuals who posed as patients, but whom Ferraro never physically examined or questioned about symptoms to determine whether there was a medical need for prescribing the oxycodone.

Over the course of the years-long conspiracy, Ferraro was responsible for prescribing tens of thousands of 30mg oxycodone pills with no legitimate medical use.

U.S. Senior Counsel Lamparello commended the investigative work of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Newark Field Office, for the successful prosecution of Ferraro.
