Police Charge Bergen County Man For Fatally Running Down A Woman In October 2025

CLIFTON, NJ.- On Monday, following an investigation, a 58-year-old Garfield, New Jersey, man was taken into custody and jailed after being charged in connection with fatally running down a 20-year-old Paterson, New Jersey woman on October 4, 2025, in Clifton, New Jersey.
According to Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes, Jose Morillo, 58, of Garfield, New Jersey, has been formally charged with one count of second-degree Leaving the Scene of a Motor Vehicle Accident Resulting in Death. He was taken into custody on Monday, February 2, 2026. He was processed on the charges and remains detained pending future court proceedings in Passaic County Superior Court in Paterson, New Jersey.
The charges stem from an investigation that began on October 4, 2025, when, shortly after 8:00 a.m., members of the Clifton Police Department responded to a report of an unresponsive woman on the side of Route 21 North near the Exit 9 entrance ramp. Upon arrival, Responding Police Officers found the lifeless body of Kamay Young, 20, of Paterson, New Jersey. Ms. Young was subsequently pronounced deceased at the scene.
   During the ensuing investigation, Detectives of the Clifton Police Department located broken pieces of the vehicle scattered nearby. A subsequent investigation by Detectives of the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office Fatal Investigations Unit and the Clifton Police Department determined that Ms. Young was fatally struck by a Porsche Cayenne that then fled the scene.
Further investigation uncovered that Morillo was operating the Cayenne that fatally struck Ms. Young.
