HAMILTON TOWNSHIP, NJ.- A 32-year-old Camden County, New Jersey, man will be facing up to fifteen years in New Jersey State Prison when he is sentenced in March, after pleading guilty earlier this week to causing a 2024 crash that tragically claimed the life of a young mother and seriously injured another three individuals.
According to Atlantic County Prosecutor William E. Reynolds, Stephen Sirch, 32, of Voorhees Township, New Jersey, appeared in Atlantic County Superior Court and pleaded guilty before Superior Court Judge Donna Taylor to an indictment charging him with first-degree Aggravated Manslaughter; and three counts of third-degree Assault by Auto.
In return for the guilty plea, the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office will recommend that Sirch be sentenced to 15 years in State Prison, subject to the No Early Release Act, which will require Sirch to serve 85% of his custodial term before becoming eligible for parole. Following entering his guilty plea, Judge Taylor accepted the plea and scheduled sentencing for March 30, 2026.
The guilty plea stems from an incident that occurred on April 3, 2024, when, at around 2:15 p.m., Sirch was involved in a serious motor vehicle crash that occurred on the Black Horse Pike in Hamilton Township, New Jersey.
During the initial investigation, Detectives from the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office Crash Investigations Unit and the Hamilton Township Police Department determined that Sirch’s vehicle struck another vehicle, which then struck a third vehicle. The driver of the first vehicle, identified as Karina Castillo, 29, of Clementon, New Jersey, a young mother, sustained fatal injuries in the collision and was pronounced deceased at the scene. Three occupants of the other vehicle sustained serious injuries in the crash.
During the ensuing investigation, Detectives determined that Sich was traveling at around 100 miles per hour at the time of the impact, and he was under the influence of several illicit substances, including fentanyl.
