FAIRVIEW, NJ.- On Monday, following an investigation, a 44-year-old Fairview, New Jersey, man and alleged child predator was taken into custody and jailed after being charged in connection with the alleged sexual assaults of a child.

According to Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella, on Monday, February 2, 2026, the Fairview Police Department contacted the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit regarding an allegation of a child being sexually assaulted on multiple occasions.

During the ensuing investigation, Detectives of the Bergen County Special Victims Unit and the Fairview Police Department quickly determined that Carlos M. Leon, 44, of Fairview, New Jersey, sexually assaulted and endangered a child in Fairview, New Jersey, on multiple occasions beginning in November 2024 and lasting through January 2026.

Accordingly, on Monday, February 2, 2026, Detectives formally charged Leon with five counts of first-degree Aggravated Sexual Assault; two counts of third-degree Aggravated Criminal Sexual Contact; and two counts of third-degree Endangering the Welfare of a Child. The charges were filed on a complaint warrant.

Later that day, on Monday, February 2, 2026, with the assistance of the Bergen County Regional SWAT Team, Detectives from the Bergen County Special Victims Unit arrested Leon in Carlstadt, New Jersey. Following being processed on the charges, Leon was remanded to the Bergen County Jail pending future court proceedings in Bergen County Superior Court in Hackensack, New Jersey.

If convicted at trial, due to the nature of the charges and the age of the alleged victim, Leon would be facing a mandatory minimum of 25 years and up to life in New Jersey State Prison.

“The rules of the court require us to include a statement that states: The charges outlined in this publication are merely accusations, and the defendant and or defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond reasonable doubt.”
