JACKSON TOWNSHIP, NJ.- An Ocean County grand jury has formally indicted a Jackson Township man on murder and weapons offenses in connection with the fatal shooting of a 28-year-old woman last fall, according to Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer.

     Prosecutor Billhimer announced that on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, Shaquille Green, 30, of Jackson Township, New Jersey, was indicted by a grand jury sitting in Ocean County on charges of first-degree Murder; second-degree Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose; and second-degree Unlawful Possession of a Weapon. The charges stem from the September 6, 2025, shooting death of Toraya Reid, 28, also of Jackson Township.

Details Of The Shooting;

     According to authorities, at approximately 11:00 a.m. on September 6, 2025, members of the Jackson Township Police Department responded to a 911 call reporting shots fired and an unresponsive female in the roadway at the Paragon Apartment Complex on Larsen Road, in the Township.

     Upon arrival, responding Police Officers discovered the lifeless body of a woman lying near the exit of the apartment complex. Investigators determined the victim had sustained multiple gunshot wounds. She was later positively identified as Ms. Reid.

     During the immediate response, additional officers observed a male running along North New Prospect Road. The individual was later identified as Shaquille Green. Police took Green into custody without incident and transported him to Jackson Township Police Headquarters for processing.

Investigation And Charges;

     A joint investigation conducted by the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crime Unit, the Jackson Township Police Department, and the Ocean County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit determined that Green, who investigators say had been in a dating relationship with the victim, was responsible for Ms. Reid’s death.

     Following the investigation, Green was charged and lodged at the Ocean County Jail, where he remains detained pending trial.

     The indictment formally advances the case to the Superior Court level, where pre-trial proceedings will continue. As with all criminal matters, the charges outlined in the indictment are accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.

Ongoing Proceedings;

     No trial date has been announced as of publication. Prosecutors have not publicly disclosed details regarding the firearm allegedly used in the shooting or potential motives beyond the relationship between the accused and the victim, citing the ongoing judicial process.

     Further updates are expected as the case moves through Ocean County Superior Court.
