WASHINGTON, DC.- The Metropolitan Police Department has announced the arrest of a suspect in connection with a December 2025 shooting in Northwest Washington that left one individual hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.
According to Metropolitan Police Officials, the shooting occurred on Sunday, December 7, 2025, at approximately 5:45 a.m., in the 2000 block of 14th Street, Northwest, a corridor known for its mix of residential properties and retail establishments.
Police stated that the suspect approached the victim during the early-morning hours. Investigators allege that the suspect brandished a handgun, shot the victim, and then fled the scene on foot.
Emergency medical personnel responded quickly, and the victim was transported to a local hospital. Authorities said the injuries sustained were classified as non-life-threatening.
Detectives assigned to the case determined through witness interviews and investigative follow-up that the suspect and the victim had been involved in a physical altercation prior to the shooting. Law enforcement officials have not publicly disclosed the nature of that dispute.
Following a weeks-long investigation, detectives identified a suspect and secured an arrest warrant through the District of Columbia Superior Court.
On Tuesday, February 24, 2026, pursuant to that court-issued warrant, 27-year-old Anfernee Brown, of Southeast Washington, D.C., was arrested and charged with Assault with a Dangerous Weapon, a felony offense under District law.
Authorities have not indicated whether the firearm believed to have been used in the shooting has been recovered. Additional details regarding Brown’s initial court appearance or bond status were not immediately available at the time of publication.
The Metropolitan Police Department continues to encourage anyone with additional information about the incident to contact investigators.
Law enforcement officials emphasize that an arrest constitutes an allegation. The charge must be proven in a court of law, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
