NEPTUNE TOWNSHIP, NJ.- A Point Pleasant Beach, New Jersey, man employed as a middle school teacher in Neptune Township has been charged with a weapons offense after authorities allege a large knife was discovered inside his desk at Neptune Middle School, Monmouth County Prosecutor Raymond S. Santiago announced Thursday.

Kevin J. Hasbrouck, 36, of Point Pleasant Beach, has been charged with one count of fourth-degree Unlawful Possession of a Weapon following an investigation conducted earlier this month.

According to the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office, on February 3, 2026, an officer with the Neptune Township Police Department responded to Neptune Middle School in reference to a reported weapons investigation. During the course of that response and subsequent inquiry, authorities located what was described as a large stainless-steel knife with a black handle inside a desk drawer assigned to Hasbrouck.

Officials have not publicly disclosed the exact length of the blade or provided additional details regarding the circumstances under which the knife was brought onto school grounds. The weapon was seized as evidence.

Under New Jersey law, certain weapons offenses may be classified as fourth-degree crimes when an individual knowingly possesses a weapon under circumstances not manifestly appropriate for lawful use. A fourth-degree conviction carries a potential penalty of up to 18 months in New Jersey State Prison and a fine of up to $10,000. Sentencing, if applicable, would ultimately be determined by the court and may take into account statutory guidelines and any prior criminal history.

The Prosecutor’s Office did not indicate whether Hasbrouck remains employed by the Neptune Township School District or whether administrative leave or disciplinary measures have been implemented pending resolution of the charge.

No additional charges were announced as of Thursday, and the investigation remains active.

As with all criminal matters, the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
