KYIV, UKRAINE- Four years into the war between Ukraine and Russia, what began in February 2022 as a full-scale invasion ordered by Russian President Vladimir Putin has become one of the defining geopolitical conflicts of our time. Hundreds of thousands have been killed, millions of Ukrainians have been displaced, entire cities have been reduced to rubble, and Western nations—led by the United States and NATO allies—have poured billions in military and humanitarian aid into Kyiv. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy continues to frame the fight as a battle for sovereignty and democracy, while Moscow insists it is defending its security interests. Four years later, the front lines remain contested, the human toll continues to rise, and the world is still grappling with how—and when—this war will end.
