JERSEY CITY, NJ.- Two Jersey City women have been arrested and charged in connection with a hit-and-run crash that injured multiple teenagers last fall, Hudson County prosecutors announced this week following the conclusion of a months-long investigation.

     Hudson County Prosecutor Wayne Mello confirmed that members of the Hudson County Regional Collision Investigation Unit arrested Tamara Tyre, 32, of Jersey City, New Jersey, on Monday, March 2, 2026, in connection with the October 6, 2025, incident. Authorities allege Tyre was operating the vehicle that struck several juveniles before leaving the scene.

     According to prosecutors, Tyre now faces a wide range of felony charges under New Jersey criminal statutes, including:

  • Five counts of Aggravated Assault
  • Five counts of Endangering an Injured Victim
  • Five counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child
  • Five counts of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon
  • Three counts of Assault by Auto Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury
  • Knowingly Leaving the Scene of a Motor Vehicle Collision Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury
  • Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose
  • Obstruction of the Administration of Law

     Tyre was taken into custody at the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office facility in Secaucus and transported to the Hudson County Correctional Facility, where she remains detained pending her first court appearance.

Crash That Injured Multiple Juveniles;

     Authorities say the incident occurred shortly after 5:00 p.m. on Monday, October 6, 2025, along Wilkinson Avenue between Ocean Avenue and Martin Luther King Jr. Drive in Jersey City.

     Responding officers from the Jersey City Police Department arrived at the scene after receiving reports of multiple pedestrians and riders struck by a vehicle.

     At the location, police discovered four male juveniles, ages 13, 15, and two 17-year-olds, all residents of Jersey City, New Jersey, who had been struck by a sedan while operating or occupying two motorized vehicles or mopeds.

     Emergency responders provided aid to the victims before they were transported for medical evaluation and treatment. During the course of the investigation, authorities determined that a fifth juvenile victim had also been injured during the incident.

     Investigators say the striking vehicle, later identified as a Hyundai sedan, did not remain at the scene, triggering a hit-and-run investigation led by the Hudson County Regional Collision Investigation Unit.

Passenger Allegedly Provided False Information;

     During the investigation, authorities determined that Yolanda Tyre, 56, of Jersey City, was allegedly a passenger inside the vehicle at the time of the crash.

     According to prosecutors, Yolanda Tyre later provided false information to investigators, allegedly identifying another individual as the passenger in the vehicle in an attempt to mislead authorities.

     She has been charged with:

  • False Reporting to Law Enforcement Authorities
  • Obstruction of the Administration of Law

Yolanda Tyre was arrested at her residence on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, and transported to the Hudson County Correctional Facility, where she is awaiting her initial court appearance.

Investigation Conducted By Collision Unit;

     The case was investigated by the Hudson County Regional Collision Investigation Unit, a specialized investigative team tasked with examining serious and fatal motor vehicle crashes across the county.

     Authorities have not yet released additional details regarding the condition of the injured juveniles or the events leading up to the collision.

     Officials have also not stated whether speed, driver impairment, or roadway conditions were factors in the crash.

     The matter will now proceed through the Hudson County Superior Court system, where prosecutors are expected to formally present the charges during the defendants’ initial court proceedings.

Presumption Of Innocence;

     Under New Jersey law, criminal charges are accusations, and all defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
