40-Year-Old Victim Treated For Non-Fatal Gunshot Wound As Authorities Investigate Incident Near Broadway & Church Street

PATERSON, NJ.- A Paterson, New Jersey, man was hospitalized Thursday evening after suffering a non-fatal gunshot wound in a shooting that authorities say occurred along one of the city’s busiest commercial corridors.

     Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes and Paterson Police Department Officer-in-Charge Patrick Murray announced that at approximately 8:26 p.m. on March 5, 2026, members of the Paterson Police Department were dispatched to St. Joseph’s University Medical Center in Paterson following reports that a shooting victim had arrived at the hospital seeking treatment.

     Responding officers met with a 40-year-old male resident of Paterson who was being treated for a gunshot wound. Authorities indicated that the injury was not fatal.

     According to investigators, officers were able to determine that the shooting occurred earlier that evening in the area of Broadway and Church Street, a heavily traveled section of the city located in Paterson’s First Ward.

     Officials have not publicly identified the victim and have not released additional details regarding the circumstances surrounding the shooting, including whether a suspect has been identified or what may have led to the incident.

     Law enforcement authorities emphasized that the investigation remains active and ongoing, with detectives continuing to gather evidence and attempt to identify those responsible.

     The Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office is urging members of the public who may have information related to the shooting to come forward.
