BERKELEY TOWNSHIP, NJ.- Authorities in Ocean County are investigating a suspected murder–suicide that left four people dead early Tuesday morning in Berkeley Township, according to officials.

Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer announced that the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crime Unit, the Berkeley Township Police Department, and the Ocean County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit are jointly investigating what authorities described as a triple homicide that occurred during the early morning hours of March 10, 2026.

Preliminary findings from investigators indicate that three individuals were fatally shot at a residence in Berkeley Township. Law enforcement officials believe the suspected gunman subsequently turned the weapon on himself, sustaining a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The suspect was transported to Community Medical Center in Toms River, where he was later pronounced deceased, authorities said.

Officials have not yet publicly released the identities of the victims or the suspected shooter, pending notification of family members.

Investigators also have not disclosed the location of the incident within Berkeley Township, the relationship between the individuals involved, or a possible motive. Authorities indicated those details may be released as the investigation progresses.

The Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crime Unit is leading the investigation, working alongside detectives from the Berkeley Township Police Department and forensic personnel from the Ocean County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit, who are processing evidence and reconstructing the events leading up to the shootings.

“This investigation remains active and ongoing, and additional information will be released at the appropriate time,” Prosecutor Billhimer said in a statement.

Berkeley Township, located along the Jersey Shore in southern Ocean County, is one of the region’s larger municipalities, and incidents involving multiple fatalities are considered rare.

As Detectives continue to interview witnesses, examine forensic evidence, and reconstruct the timeline of events, authorities say they will provide further updates once additional details can be confirmed.
