Police Respond To Shots Fired Near Howe & Myrtle Avenues; No Injuries Reported As Investigation Continues

PASSAIC, NJ.- Authorities in Passaic County are investigating a late-night report of gunfire that prompted a police response in a residential section of the city Sunday evening.

     Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes and Passaic Police Chief Luis A. Guzman announced that at approximately 10:11 p.m. on March 8, 2026, officers from the Passaic Police Department were dispatched to the area of Howe Avenue and Myrtle Avenue following reports of shots fired.

     According to officials, responding officers arrived on scene within minutes and were able to locate what investigators described as a potential crime scene, indicating that gunfire had occurred in the area.

     Authorities confirmed that no individuals were struck by the gunfire, and no injuries were reported.

     Police secured the surrounding area while officers conducted an initial investigation. Detectives began canvassing the neighborhood for witnesses and potential surveillance footage that may help determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.

     At this stage of the investigation, officials have not released information regarding potential suspects, arrests, or a possible motive, and it remains unclear whether the gunfire was directed at a specific person or property.

     Investigators from the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office and the Passaic Police Department are continuing to actively review evidence and gather additional information related to the incident.
