NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ.- A 27-year-old woman remains in critical condition following a serious three-vehicle crash late Sunday night at a busy New Brunswick intersection, authorities confirmed.
Middlesex County Prosecutor Linda Estremera and New Brunswick Police Chief Vincent Sabo announced that the collision, which occurred on March 8, 2026, is currently under active investigation by local and county authorities.
According to officials, the New Brunswick Police Department responded at approximately 10:15 p.m. to reports of a severe motor vehicle crash at the intersection of Route 18 and Paulus Boulevard.
Preliminary findings indicate that a tractor-trailer operated by a 57-year-old man from Norristown, Pennsylvania, and a BMW driven by a 27-year-old woman from Parlin, New Jersey, were involved in the initial collision.
Emergency responders transported the BMW driver to JFK Medical Center, where she was initially treated for serious head injuries sustained during the crash. Due to the severity of her condition, she was later transferred to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick, where officials say she remains in critical condition.
Authorities reported that the driver of the tractor-trailer did not sustain serious injuries.
During the course of the investigation, detectives determined that a third vehicle, an Infiniti Q50 operated by a 27-year-old man from Parlin, New Jersey, was also involved in the collision. Officials have not yet released additional details regarding how the Infiniti became involved in the crash.
Investigators have not indicated whether any charges are pending and say the exact sequence of events leading to the collision remains under investigation.
The intersection of Route 18 and Paulus Boulevard is a heavily traveled corridor connecting local roadways to one of central New Jersey’s major north-south highways. Authorities have not stated whether road closures or traffic disruptions occurred following the crash.
Law enforcement officials are asking members of the public who may have information about the incident to come forward.
Anyone who witnessed the crash or possesses surveillance footage from the surrounding area is urged to contact Officer Edward Bobadilla of the New Brunswick Police Department at (732) 745-5005 or Detective James Barnes of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office at (732) 745-3437.
