Police Respond To Reports Of Gunfire Near Carroll Street & Godwin Avenue, As Authorities Seek Tips From The Public

PATERSON, NJ.- Authorities in Passaic County are investigating a fatal shooting that left an 18-year-old Paterson resident dead Wednesday evening, according to officials.

     Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes and Patrick Murray, Officer-In-Charge of the Paterson Police Department, announced that officers were dispatched to the area of Carroll Street and Godwin Avenue on March 11, 2026, at approximately 6:29 p.m. following reports of gunfire.

     When officers arrived at the scene, they located an 18-year-old male from Paterson suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, authorities said.

     Emergency responders transported the victim to Saint Joseph’s University Medical Center in Paterson. Despite lifesaving efforts, the victim was later pronounced deceased at the hospital, according to the prosecutor’s office.

     Officials have not publicly released the victim’s identity pending notification of next of kin.

     Investigators from the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office and the Paterson Police Department responded to the scene and are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting. Authorities have not yet announced whether a suspect has been identified or taken into custody.

     The incident remains an active and ongoing investigation, and prosecutors said additional details will be released as they become available.

     Law enforcement officials are urging anyone with information related to the shooting to come forward.
