Federal Complaint Alleges Previously Removed Individual Fled Authorities After Traffic Collisions During Enforcement Operation In South Burlington

BURLINGTON, VT.- Federal prosecutors have charged a Mexican national living in Vermont with illegally reentering the United States after previously being removed, according to an announcement from the United States Attorney’s Office for the District of Vermont.

Deyvi Daniel Corona-Sanchez, 24, a Mexican citizen who had recently been residing in South Burlington, is accused in a criminal complaint of illegal reentry into the United States, which prohibits previously removed non-citizens from reentering or remaining in the United States without authorization.

According to court records filed in federal court, Corona-Sanchez initially entered the United States unlawfully in October 2021 near Eagle Pass, Texas, along the U.S.–Mexico border.

Federal immigration authorities later located him at a detention facility in Dilley, Texas, in March 2022. Officials with U.S. immigration enforcement agencies subsequently removed him from the United States shortly thereafter, according to the complaint.

Authorities allege that Corona-Sanchez later returned to the United States without authorization.

Immigration officials became aware of his alleged reentry following a January 15, 2026, arrest for driving under the influence in Middlebury, Vermont, according to federal prosecutors. That arrest reportedly prompted immigration authorities to review his immigration history and determine that he had previously been removed from the country.

Federal prosecutors said events escalated on the morning of March 11, 2026, when the U.S. Attorney’s Office was notified of a civil enforcement operation conducted by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement – Enforcement and Removal Operations (ICE-ERO) personnel in South Burlington.

During the operation, ICE-ERO agents attempted to apprehend an individual they believed to be Corona-Sanchez. Authorities reported that the suspect fled in a motor vehicle, resulting in multiple vehicle collisions along Dorset Street, a major roadway in the city.

Investigators said the individual then abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot into a nearby residence.

Following the incident, ICE-ERO officials requested a criminal process related to Corona-Sanchez. Federal prosecutors subsequently obtained a criminal complaint and arrest warrant charging him with illegal reentry under federal law.

In addition, federal agents secured a search warrant authorizing entry into the Dorset Street residence, where authorities believed Corona-Sanchez had taken refuge.

ICE-ERO personnel executed the search warrant later that day and entered the residence to conduct the arrest operation. Officials identified and interviewed the occupants of the home during the search.

However, according to court filings, Corona-Sanchez was not located inside the residence.

Federal authorities confirmed that the arrest warrant for Corona-Sanchez remains active, and he is currently considered a fugitive.

Illegal reentry after removal is a federal offense that can carry significant penalties, particularly for individuals who have previously been deported from the United States.

The case is being investigated by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement – Enforcement and Removal Operations and is being prosecuted by the United States Attorney’s Office for the District of Vermont.

Federal officials did not release additional information regarding Corona-Sanchez’s current whereabouts.
