RIDGEFIELD PARK, NJ.- On Wednesday, May 21, 2025, a 24-year-old Ridgefield Park, New Jersey, man was taken into custody and formally charged in connection with a motor vehicle crash that occurred Wednesday morning in Ridgefield Park, New Jersey.

According to Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella, on Wednesday, May 21, 2025, shortly after 9:30 a.m., members of Ridgefield Park, New Jersey Police Department responded to 911 Emergency Calls reporting a serious two-vehicle collision along the Bergen Turnpike in Ridgefield Park.

Police Officers Locate Head-On Collision

Upon arrival, Responding Police Officers located the crash and determined that Patrick J. McArdle, 24, of Ridgefield Park, New Jersey, was driving a Honda Civic northbound on the Bergen Turnpike when he crossed over the double yellow line into the southbound lane, striking a Toyota Corolla occupied by an 84-year-old driver. Both drivers were transported to a nearby hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

During the ensuing investigation by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit, the Bergen County Fatal Accident Task Force, and the Ridgefield Park Police Department, Detectives and Investigators determined that McArdle intentionally drove his Honda Civic into the oncoming traffic, striking the Toyota Corolla head-on injuring the 84-year-old driver.

Accordingly, on Wednesday, May 21, 2025, McArdle was taken into custody and charged with second-degree Aggravated Assault, Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury. McArdle was served with the charge at the hospital and placed in Police custody pending his first appearance in Bergen County Superior Court in Hackensack, New Jersey. Additionally, McArdle was issued several motor vehicle summonses by the Ridgefield Police Department.
