Weehawken Man Charged With Misappropriation of Funds

FAIRVIEW, NJ.- On Thursday, a 29-year-old Weehawken, New Jersey, man, a firefighter with the Fairview Volunteer Fire Department, was taken into custody and charged in connection with allegedly making nearly $7,000 in unauthorized purchases from a Fire Department account.
According to Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella, on January 6, 2025, the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Confidential Investigations Unit received information regarding the alleged theft from the Fairview Fire Department.
Detectives Uncover Nearly $7,000 Stolen
During a months-long investigation, Detectives of the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office uncovered a series of unauthorized purchases and ATM cash withdrawals from bank accounts associated with the Fairview Fire Department. The unauthorized transactions occurred over nearly two years, beginning in January 2023 and lasting through November 2024.
Further investigation determined that Adrian Oceguera, 29, of Weehawken, New Jersey, a firefighter and account treasurer for the Fairview Fire Department’s Tiger Hose Company 1, misappropriated the money for personal use, totaling just around $6,721.00. The money stolen funds in the theft was separate from the taxpayer-funded Fairview Fire Department under the control of the Borough of Fairview.
Accordingly, as a result of the investigation, on Thursday, May 22, 2025, Oceguera was taken into custody at the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office in Paramus, New Jersey, and formally charged with one count of third-degree Theft. Oceguera was processed on the charge and released on a summons complaint pending future court proceedings in Bergen County Superior Court in Hackensack, New Jersey.
