Hudson County Arts & Science Middle School Employee Charged With Sexual Misconduct

KEARNY, NJ.- On Thursday, following a months-long investigation by Detectives of the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit, a 36-year-old Garfield, New Jersey, man employed as an IT professional for the Hudson Arts & Science Middle School was taken into custody and jailed after being charged in connection with allegedly exposing himself to preteen female students.
According to Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez, Omer Sogutcu, 36, of Garfield, New Jersey, has been formally charged with two counts of second-degree Sexual Assault by Contact; and two counts of third-degree Endangering the Welfare of a Child.
Sogutcu was taken into custody on Thursday, June 5, 2025, at the charter school’s district office in Fairlawn, New Jersey. Sogutcu was processed on the charges and remanded to the Hudson County Correctional Facility, pending future court proceedings in Hudson County Superior Court in Jersey City, New Jersey.
Investigation Uncovers That Sogutcu Exposed Himself
The charges stem from an investigation conducted by the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office, which uncovered that in October 2024, while employed as an IT Professional at the Charter School, Sogutcu exposed himself to two female students under the age of thirteen and asked them to engage in sexual conduct with him.
“The rules of the court require us to include a statement that states: The charges outlined in this publication are merely accusations, and the defendant and or defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond reasonable doubt.”
