Wolcott Man Sentenced For Possession Of “Ghost Gun”

HARTFORD, CT.- A 37-year-old Wolcott, Connecticut, man will be spending a little over the next three years in federal prison after being sentenced for possessing a loaded 9mm ghost gun.

     According to U.S. Attorney David X. Sullivan, on Friday, June 6, 2025, Jose Colon, 37, of Wolcott, Connecticut, appeared in the U.S. District Court for the District of Connecticut and was sentenced by U.S. District Court Judge Vernon D. Oliver to 37 months in federal prison, to be followed by three years of supervised release for his previously entered guilty plea to a federal firearms violation. 

     Colon, who has been in custody since his March 2024 arrest, appeared in Federal Court in Hartford, Connecticut, on February 20, 2025, and pleaded guilty to Being a Prohibited Person in Possession of a Firearm, Convicted Felon.

     Federal law prohibits a person with a previous felony conviction of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence from owning or possessing a firearm and ammunition. Colon knew when he possessed the handgun in March of 2024 due to his prior felony convictions in Connecticut for assault, weapons, and risk of injury offenses.

According To The Charging Documents

     According to the charging documents filed with the District Court, on March 13, 2024, members of the Waterbury Police Department arrested Colon after he tossed a homemade 9mm handgun, commonly known as a “Ghost Gun,” loaded with six rounds during a brief foot pursuit in Waterbury, Connecticut.
