Sunday, June 8, 2025, 6:45 A.M. ET. 2 Minute Read, By Art Fletcher: Englebrook Independent News,

PATERSON, NJ.- On Friday, June 6, 2025, a 17-year-old Paterson, New Jersey, boy was taken into custody and charged in connection with the robbery and shooting death of a 42-year-old Paterson, New Jersey, man that occurred in the City of Paterson on May 11, 2025.

According to Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes, the teen was formally charged with acts of juvenile delinquency that would constitute the crimes of first-degree Felony Murder; first-degree Murder; first-degree Robbery; and second-degree Conspiracy to Commit Robbery.

The teen was processed on the charges and was remanded to the Essex County Juvenile Detention Center, pending future court proceedings in Passaic County Superior Court Family Division, Juvenile Part.

Charges Are A Result Of An Investigation

The arrest and charges stem from an investigation that began on May 11, 2025, when, shortly after 6:30 p.m., members of the Paterson Police Department responded to reports of gunfire near the intersection of Rosa Parks Boulevard and Lafayette Street in the City of Paterson.

Upon arrival, Police Officers discovered a man, later identified as Rulsy Mata Sosa, 42, of Paterson, New Jersey, lying on the ground, suffering from a life-threatening gunshot wound. Mr. Sosa was transported to Saint Joseph’s University Medical Center, where, despite life-saving efforts, Mr. Sosa tragically succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased a short time later.

Three Are Identified As Suspects

During the ensuing investigation by the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office Fatal Investigations Unit and the Paterson Police Department, Detectives determined that three individuals approached Mr. Sosa and attempted to take his gold chain. One of the individuals pulled out a handgun and fired, striking Mr. Sosa, which resulted in his death. The 17-year-old was identified as one of the three suspects. He was taken into custody on Friday without incident.
