Camden Teen Accidently Killed In Apparent Gunplay

CAMDEN, NJ.- Detectives are continuing the investigation into an apparent accidental shooting death of a 16-year-old Camden, New Jersey, boy who was tragically killed Friday afternoon when a firearm discharged inside a Thorn Street residence in the City of Camden.
According to Camden County Prosecutor Grace C. MacAulay, on Friday, June 6, 2025, just shortly after 12:30 p.m., members of the Camden County Police Department responded to a 911 Emergency Call reporting a person being shot inside a home located on the 1400 Block of Thorn Street in the City of Camden.
Police Officers Find Teen Shot Inside Home
Upon arrival, Police Officers discovered a male teen, later identified as Xyere Brooks, 16, of Camden, New Jersey, inside the residence, suffering from a life-threatening gunshot wound. The teen was immediately transported to Cooper University Hospital, where, despite life-saving efforts, he tragically succumbed to his injury and was pronounced deceased shortly around 2:15 p.m.
During the initial investigation, Police Officers determined that multiple juveniles were inside the residence at the time of the incident. Detectives are continuing to investigate the circumstances under which the firearm was discharged.
The investigation remains active and ongoing. No criminal charges have been filed at this time.
