SAYREVILLE, NJ.- On Monday, June 9, 2025, following a four-week trial in Middlesex County Superior Court, a jury found Rashid Ali Bynum, 31, formerly of Virginia, guilty in connection with the murder of Sayerville Councilwoman Eunice Dwumfor, 30, who was fatally gunned down in February 2023, outside of her Parlin, New Jersey home.

According to Yolanda Ciccone, on February 1, 2023, just shortly before 7:30 p.m., members of the Sayreville Police Department responded to a 911 Emergency Call reporting gunfire in the area of Samuel Circle in the Parlin section of Sayreville.

Upon arrival, Police Officers located Councilwoman Eunice Dwumfor, 30, of Sayreville, unresponsive inside her vehicle, having succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds. Ms. Dwumfor was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Following An Investigation, Bynum Was Charged

On May 30, 2023, following an investigation, Bynum was arrested and charged in connection with the shooting death of Ms. Dwumfor. He was taken into custody outside his girlfriend’s residence in Chesapeake, Virginia, without incident and formally charged with first-degree Murder; second-degree Unlawful Possession of a Weapon; and Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose. On July 27, 2023, Bynum was extradited to New Jersey.

During the four-week trial that began on May 13, 2025, Middlesex County Assistant Prosecutor Kristen Pridgen and First Assistant Prosecutor Tzvi Dolinger presented evidence and testimony to the jury proving that Bynum was the individual responsible for the shooting death of Ms. Dwumfor. Following a little more than one day of deliberations, The jury found Bynum guilty of the murder of Ms. Dwumfor. He was also convicted of weapons offenses in connection with the murder offense.

“Securing justice for the victim and her family would not have been possible without the hard work and dedication of all the members of law enforcement who worked tirelessly on this case for over two years,” Prosecutor Ciccone said. “The collaborative effort of multiple state agencies in New Jersey and Virginia, along with the FBI, should not go unrecognized.”
