WASHINGTON, DC.- On Friday, June 13, 2025, an 18-year-old Southeast, D.C., man was taken into custody and charged shortly after robbing an individual at gunpoint of their moped on Friday morning in Southeast, D.C.

According to D.C. Metropolitan Police Chief Pamela A. Smith, on Friday, June 13, 2025, just shortly after 10:00 a.m., members of the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department responded to a report of an armed carjacking near the intersection of 9th and G Streets in Southeast, D.C.

Police Arrive On Scene And Apprehend Suspect

Upon arrival, Police Officers located a victim who informed them while seated on his moped, he was approached by a suspect who pulled out a handgun and pointed it at the victim, and a physical altercation ensued. Responding Police Officers, upon arriving at the scene, were able to quickly apprehend the suspect, later identified as Dayshawn Lee, 18, of Southeast, D.C., a short distance away, before he could flee with the moped.

Accordingly, following being taken into custody, Lee was formally charged with one count of Armed Carjacking; Possession of a Large Capacity Ammunition Feeding Device; and Possession of Unregister Ammunition. Lee was processed on the charges and was remanded to the D.C. Central Detention Facility, pending future court proceedings in the Superior Court of the District of Columbia.
