Brazilian Man Pleads Guilty To Illegal Reentry Into The U.S.

Monday, June 16, 2025, 4:45 P.M. ET. 2 Minute Read, By Art Fletcher: Englebrook Independent News,

BOSTON, MA.- Today, a 33-year-old Brazilian national, illegally residing in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, found out that he would have to spend up to two years in federal prison before he can be returned to Brazil after pleading guilty to unlawfully reentering the United States by a previously deported alien.

According to U.S. Attorney Leah B. Thompson, on Monday, June 16, 2025, Thiago Aquino-De Paula, 33, of Brazil, illegally residing in Worcester, Massachusetts, appeared in the U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts and pleaded guilty before U.S. District Court Judge Margaret R. Guzman to one count of Illegal Reentry into the United States by a Previously Deported Alien.

Following entering his guilty plea, Judge Guzman accepted the plea and scheduled sentencing for August 28, 2025. At that time, Aquino-De Paula faces up to 24 months in federal prison, at least one year of supervised release, and a fine of up to $250,000. At sentencing, a U.S. District Court Judge will determine the term of imprisonment based on the seriousness of the offense and Aquino-De Paula’s prior criminal history.

Upon completion of any sentence imposed, Aquino-De Paula will face immediate deportation proceedings and will be removed from the United States.

Aquino-De Paula Was Previously Deported Three Prior Times

According to the charging information filed with the District Court, Aquino-De Paula was deported from the United States on three prior occasions, including on or about November 4, 2021. Sometime after his November 4, 2021, Aquino-De Paula, at an unknown date and an unknown location, illegally reentered the United States without permission or legal authorization to do so. Aquino-De Paula was found unlawfully in the country after being arrested in Uxbridge, Massachusetts, for operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol.

In April 2025, a Federal Grand Jury for the District of Massachusetts returned an indictment charging Aquino-De Paula with the same charge for which he had pleaded guilty.
