Police Charge Man In Early Saturday Morning Northwest Burglary & Attempted Rape

WASHINGTON, DC.- On Wednesday, following an investigation, a 32-year-old Northeast, D.C., man was taken into custody and jailed after being charged in connection with an alleged early Saturday morning burglary and attempted rape inside a Northwest, D.C. residence.
According to D.C. Metropolitan Police Chief Pamela A. Smith, on Saturday, June 14, 2025, at around 12:45 a.m., members of the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department responded to a report of a breaking and entering at a residential residence located on the 1200 Block of 11th Street in Northwest, D.C.
Upon Arrival, Police Officers Learn The Suspect Broke Into The Home
Upon arrival, Police Officers were informed by the victim that an unknown man had broken into their home. Once inside, the man assaulted them and attempted to commit an unwanted forced sexual act before fleeing the scene.
Detectives Identify McGrier As The Suspect
During a swift-moving investigation, Responding Police Officers and Detectives were able to identify the assailant as Makel McGrier, 32, of Northeast, D.C., and a warrant was issued for his arrest.
On Wednesday, June 18, 2025, McGrier was located and taken into custody pursuant to a DC Superior Court warrant and formally charged with first-degree Burglary; first-degree Assault with Intent to Commit Sexual Abuse; and third-degree Sexual Abuse.
McGrier was processed on the charges and was remanded to the D.C. Central Detention Facility, pending future court proceedings in the Superior Court of the District of Columbia.
