BUFFALO, NY.- On Monday, June 16, 2025, Saima Qamar, 55, a Canadian national and a native of Pakistan, was taken into custody and charged by federal criminal complaint with one count of Illegal Reentry into the United States by a Previously Deported Alien.

According to U.S. Attorney Michael DiGiacomo, following being criminally charged, Qamar made his initial appearance in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of New York and was ordered detained by U.S. Magistrate Judge Jeremiah J. McCarthy.

If convicted at trial, Qamar faces up to 24 months in federal prison, at least one year of supervised release, and a fine of up to $250,000. Upon a finding of guilt, a U.S. District Court Judge will determine the term of imprisonment based on the seriousness of the offense and Qamar’s prior criminal history, if any. Following the completion of any sentence imposed, Qamar will face immediate deportation proceedings and be removed from the country.

According To The Charging Information

According to the charging information filed in the criminal complaint, Qamar was initially detained by the Lewiston Police Department for suspicion of being in the State of New York, after being alleged to have illegally entered the United States. Police Officers contacted the U.S. Border Patrol for assistance.

A subsequent records check revealed that Qamar was a Canadian citizen and a Pakistani national who was illegally present in the United States without permission or legal authorization, having previously been removed in April 2019.

“The rules of the court require us to include a statement that states: The charges outlined in this publication are merely accusations, and the defendant and or defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond reasonable doubt.”
