Mexican Convicted Felon Sentenced For Drug Trafficking & Illegal Reentry

CAMDEN, NJ.- Last Tuesday, a 41-year-old Mexican national, and previously convicted felon, learned he would be spending nearly a decade in federal prison after being sentenced for federal narcotics and immigration offenses.
According to U.S. Attorney Alina Habba, on Tuesday, June 17, 2025, Anastacio Santiago Chaparro, also known as Arnoldo Urquidez, 41, of Mexico, appeared in the U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey and was sentenced by U.S. District Court Judge Edward S. Kiel to 110 months in federal prison after pleading guilty to Possession with Intent to Distribute a Controlled Substance, Cocaine, and Illegal Reentry into the United States by Convicted Felon.
According To Charging Documents Filed With The Court
According to charging documents filed with the District Court, on November 6, 2023, Santiago Chaparro was caught by law enforcement Officers transporting a backpack that contained over 10 kilograms of cocaine. During his previous plea allocution, Santiago Chaparro admitted to possessing the cocaine and that he intended to distribute it within the District of New Jersey.
Additionally, Santiago Chaparro had been deported from the United States to Mexico three times and had previously been convicted of felony possession of a firearm by an illegal alien.
In handing down the sentence on Tuesday, Judge Kiel, in addition to the term of imprisonment, sentenced Santiago Chaparro to an additional three years of supervised release. Upon completion of his term of imprisonment, Santiago Chaparro will face immediate deportation proceedings and be removed from the United States.
