Police Charge Man In Saturday Night Northeast Snatch & Grab Robbery

WASHINGTON, DC.- On Saturday, June 21, 2025, a 20-year-old man was taken into custody and charged shortly after robbing an individual of their cell phone in Northeast, D.C.
According to D.C. Metropolitan Police Chief Pamela A. Smith, on Saturday, June 21, 2025, shortly around 7:30 p.m., members of the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department responded to a report of a robbery on the 4700 Block of Minnesota Avenue in Northeast, D.C.
Police Officer Learn Suspect Snatched Their Cell Phone
Upon arrival, Police Officers were informed by the victim that while standing on Minnesota Avenue with their cell phone in their hand, they were approached by a suspect who snatched the phone and ran from the scene. The victim told Police Officers that they were able to recover their phone with the help of a witness. The victim and the witness pointed out the suspect, who remained in the area, to the Police Officers, who quickly apprehended the suspect.
Accordingly, the suspect, identified as Edgar Cruz Martinez, 20, with no known address, was formally charged with one count of Robbery. Cruz Martinez was processed on the charge and was remanded to D.C. Central Detention Facility, pending future court proceedings in the Superior Court of the District of Columbia.
