Police Charge Man In Last Month’s Northwest Gunpoint Robbery

WASHINGTON, DC.- On Wednesday, a 24-year-old Northwest, D.C., man was taken into custody and jailed after being charged in connection with a gunpoint robbery of a cell phone following a car crash that occurred late last month in Northwest, D.C.

     According to D.C. Metropolitan Police Chief Pamela A. Smith, on Friday, May 30, 2025, at shortly before 5:00 p.m., members of the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department responded to a report of an armed robbery on the 600 Block of 12th Street in Northwest, D.C.

Police Officers Learn Following Car Crash Victim Robbed

     Upon arrival, Police Officers learned that the victim and the suspect were involved in a two-vehicle collision within the 600 Block of 12th Street. When the victim exited their vehicle to exchange vehicle information, a verbal altercation ensued, at which time the suspect pulled out a handgun, pointed at the victim, and robbed them of their cell phone, and fled the scene on foot.

     During a swift-moving investigation,  Detectives were able to identify the suspect as Diego Hernandez, 24, of Northwest, D.C., and a warrant was issued for his arrest.

Hernandez Taken Into Custody On Wednesday

     Accordingly, on Wednesday, June 25, 2025, pursuant to a DC Superior Court warrant, Hernandez was located and taken into custody and formally charged with one count of Armed Robbery. Hernandez was processed on the charge and was remanded to the D.C. Central Detention Facility, pending future court proceedings in the Superior Court of the District of Columbia.

“The rules of the court require us to include a statement that states: The charges outlined in this publication are merely accusations, and the defendant and or defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond reasonable doubt.”
