Washington Post Journalist Charged With Possession Of Child Pornography

WASHINGTON, DC.- On Thursday, June 26, 2025, a 48-year-old Washington, D.C. man, and an award-winning journalist employed at the Washington Post, was taken into custody and charged with allegedly possessing digital images and video files depicting the sexual exploitation and abuse of children.

     According to U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro, on Thursday, following an investigation, Thomas Pham LeGro, 48, of Washington, D.C., a journalist with the Washington Post, was taken into custody following a court-authorized search of his home, and charged by federal criminal complaint with Possession of Child Pornography. 

     On Friday, June 27, 2025, LeGro made his initial appearance in U.S. Federal Court in Washington, D.C. and was arraigned on the charge. It is unknown if LeGro was detained or released pending future court proceedings. 

Charging Information Filed In The Federal Complaint

     According to the charging information filed in the criminal complaint, on Thursday, June 26, 2025, during an ongoing investigation into Legro’s internet child pornography activity, Agents of the Federal Bureau of Investigation executed a search warrant at LeGro’s residence and seized multiple electronic devices. An initial review of LeGro’s work laptop uncovered a media folder that contained eleven video files depicting the sexual exploitation and abuse of children.

     Additionally, during the search, Federal Investigators located what appeared to be fractured pieces of an external hard drive in a hallway outside the room where LeGro’s work laptop was located.

     U.S. Attorney Pirro commended the investigative work of the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department.

“The rules of the federal court require us to include a statement that states: The charges outlined in this publication are merely accusations, and the defendant and or defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond reasonable doubt.”
