Philadelphia Man Sentenced For 2023 Gunpoint Carjacking

Sunday, June 29, 2025, 7:15 A.M. ET. 2 Minute Read, By Art Fletcher: Englebrook Independent News,

PHILADELPHIA, PA.- A 55-year-old Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, man learned he will be eligible for social security benefits when he is finally released from federal prison, after being sentenced on Thursday, for the January 2023 gunpoint carjacking of a woman in Philadelphia.

According to U.S. Attorney David Metcalf, on Thursday, June 26, 2025, Kelly Stanton, 55, of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, appeared in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania and was sentenced by U.S. District Court Judge R. Barclay Surrick to 144 months in federal prison, to be followed by five years of supervised release for his previously entered guilty plea to Carjacking.

In March 2023, a Federal Grand Jury for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania returned an indictment charging Stanton with carjacking. In October 2024, Stanton pleaded guilty to the charge.

According To Court Documents

According to charging documents and statements made in the District Court, at just around 11:00 p.m., on January 26, 2023, a woman had parked her car on the 1600 Block of Cecil B. Moore Avenue in Philadelphia to pick up a pizza. After she exited the pizzeria and was getting back into her vehicle, Stanton approached her. He then pulled out a handgun and put the handgun up to her head and said,”Give the F…ing keys or I’m going to shoot you.”

After struggling with Stanton, the woman was eventually able to get her keys out of her pocket, gave the keys to him, and was able to run from the car. Stanton then drove off in the car heading West on Cecil B. Moore Avenue. The woman’s vehicle has not yet been recovered to date.

“The victim in this case was just going about her night when Stanton ambushed and terrorized her, putting his gun to her head and threatening to shoot her,” said U.S. Attorney Mercalf. “Anyone who would violently accost a stranger like this for their car, or any other possession, is a clear threat to our community. My office will continue to work with our partners on the Philadelphia Carjacking Task Force to bring these dangerous offenders to justice.”
