Huntington Man Pleads Guilty To Methamphetamine Trafficking

HUNTINGTON, W.VA.- A 24-year-old Huntington, West Virginia, man, and a local methamphetamine distributor will be facing up to life in federal prison and millions of dollars in fines when sentenced after pleading guilty on Tuesday to a federal drug trafficking crime.

     According to Acting U.S. Attorney Lisa G. Johnston, on Tuesday, July 1, 2025, Tayron Jerome Griffin, also known as “Taye,” 24, of Huntington, West Virginia, appeared in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of West Virginia and pleaded guilty before U.S. District Court Judge Robert C. Chambers to Possession with Intent to Distribute 500 Grams or More of Methamphetamine.

Judge Chambers Schedules Griffin To Be Sentenced In October

     Following entering his guilty plea, Judge Chambers accepted the plea and scheduled sentencing for October 14, 2025. At that time, Griffin faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 10 years and up to life in federal prison, at least five years of supervised release, and fines of up to $10 million. At sentencing, a U.S. District Court Judge will determine the term of imprisonment based on the seriousness of the offense and Griffin’s prior criminal history.

     According to the charging information and statements made in the District Court, on March 4, 2025, during an ongoing narcotics investigation into the distribution of illicit narcotics within the Huntington, West Virginia area, law enforcement Investigators executed a court-authorized search warrant at Griffin’s Huntington residence.

     During the search, Investigators located and seized approximately 617 grams of methamphetamine in his bedroom nightstand, around 8 grams of methamphetamine hidden in a kitchen drawer, and numerous items of drug paraphernalia, as well as $1,648 in U.S. currency in denominations consistent with drug sales.

     During his plea allocution on Tuesday, Griffin admitted that he possessed the seized methamphetamine and that he intended to distribute it, and that the cash was from drug sales. Griffin further admitted to possessing a loaded Smith & Wesson Romarm Cugir handgun, a loaded Smith & Wesson .40-caliber handgun that investigators found in the nightstand, as well as a loaded Glock 10mm pistol found on top of the nightstand.

Griffin Admits To Selling Meth And Cocaine To An Informant

     Griffin also admitted to selling illicit narcotics on three occasions at his Huntington residence, each time to a confidential informant. Griffin sold around 28.9 grams of methamphetamine for $200 on February 21, 2025, around 27.9 grams of methamphetamine for $210 on February 25, 2025, and around 1.58 grams of cocaine for $100 on February 28, 2025.

     Acting U.S. Attorney Johnston commended the investigative work of the Huntington Violent Crime and Drug Task Force, the Huntington Police Department, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, which led to Griffin’s guilty plea on Tuesday.
