Ohio County Man Pleads Guilty To Federal Drug Crime

WHEELING, W.VA.- Today, a 25-year-old Wheeling, West Virginia, man, and a local drug dealer learned that when sentenced, he could potentially be facing up to 20 years in federal prison after pleading guilty to a federal drug trafficking crime.

     According to Acting U.S. Attorney Randolph J. Bernard, on Wednesday, July 9, 2025, Deontre Christian Johnson, also known as “Trap,” 25, of Wheeling, West Virginia, appeared in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of West Virginia and pleaded guilty before U.S.Magistrate Judge James P. Mazzone to Distribution of a Controlled Substance, Fentanyl.

     Following entering his guilty plea, today, Judge Mazzone accepted the plea and scheduled sentencing for a time and date to be determined by the District Court. When sentenced, Johnson faces a mandatory minimum of five years and up to 20 years in federal prison, at least three years of supervised release, and up to a $1 million fine. At sentencing, a U.S. District Court Judge will determine the term of imprisonment based on the seriousness of the offense and Johnson’s prior criminal history. 

According To Court Documents

     According to charging information filed with the District Court, during a narcotics investigation into the distribution of illicit narcotics within the Ohio County, West Virginia, area. Investigators of the Ohio Valley Drug Task Force identified Johnson as a fentanyl distributor who was selling quantities of fentanyl throughout Wheeling Island, West Virginia.
