Police Charge Man In Last Month’s Northwest Armed Robbery

WASHINGTON, DC.- Last Friday, following an investigation, a 31-year-old Northwest, D.C., man was taken into custody and jailed after being charged in connection with a gunpoint robbery that occurred during the evening hours on June 20, 2025, in Northwest, D.C.
According to D.C. Metropolitan Police Chief Pamela A. Smith, on Friday, June 20, 2025, at around 9:00 p.m., members of the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department’s Third District responded to a report of an armed robbery on the 1400 Block of R Street in Northwest, D.C.
Police Officers Were Informed They Were Robbed At Gunpoint
Upon arrival, Police Officers located a victim who reported that while on R Street, a group of suspects approached him, pulled out a handgun, and demanded their money and property. The victim complied with the demands, and the suspects fled the scene.
On Friday, July 4, 2025, while on routine patrol, Third District Police Officers spotted a man matching the description provided by the victim. Accordingly, Jason Benitez-Umanzor, 31, of Northwest, D.C., was taken into custody and formally charged with one count of Armed Robbery. Benitez-Umanzor was processed on the charge and was remanded to the D.C. Central Detention Facility, pending future court proceedings in the Superior Court of the District of Columbia.
