Sentence Stems From A Narcotics Investigation
The guilty plea and sentence stem from an investigation that unfolded on September 27, 2023, when, during an ongoing investigation into the distribution of cocaine in the Toms River, New Jersey, area. Detectives of the Toms River Township Police Department’s Special Enforcement Team observed two motor vehicles parked next to each other in the area of the Presidential Apartments.
Detectives witnessed a woman exit her vehicle and enter the passenger side of the second vehicle, which was being operated by Perez. Following the woman entering Perez’s vehicle, Detectives approached the vehicle and removed Perez and the woman. As Perez exited the vehicle, Detectives noticed a quantity of cocaine in plain view on the driver’s side floor of the vehicle.
Perez was taken into custody and charged with Possession of More than One Half Ounce of Cocaine with Intent to Distribute; Possession of Cocaine; and Wandering to Obtain or Distribute a Controlled Dangerous Substance. Perez was processed on the charges and was remanded to the Ocean County Jail. The following day, on September 28, 2023, Detectives obtained and executed a court-authorized search warrant on Perez’s vehicle.
During the search, Detectives located and seized additional quantities of cocaine, oxycodone pills, suboxone, hashish, and various items of drug paraphernalia consistent with narcotics distribution activities. Perez was charged accordingly and served with the charges at the Ocean County Jail. Following an appearance for a detention hearing in Ocean County Superior Court, Perez was released on pretrial monitoring conditions.
