Child Pronounced Deceased Late Saturday Night In The City Of Paterson

PATERSON, NJ.- Detectives of the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office Fatal Investigations Unit and the Paterson Police Department are continuing the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the tragic death of a 5-year-old boy who accidentally fell into a backyard swimming pool late Saturday night in the City of Paterson.
According to Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes, on Saturday, July 12, 2025, at approximately 10:00 p.m., members of the Paterson Police Department responded to Saint Joseph’s University Medical Center after receiving a report of an unresponsive 5-year-old child who had arrived with family members at the Medical Center.
Police Officers Learned The Child Was Found in Backyard Pool
Upon arrival, Police Officers learned from witnesses that the child had been found by family members shortly before 10:00 p.m., completely submerged underwater in a pool at his residence located in the area of Marshall and Mary Streets in the City of Paterson. The young boy was pronounced deceased at 10:02 p.m.
The investigation remains active and ongoing. More information may become available once it is released by authorities.
