North Bergen Man Charged In Leonia Pedestrian Hit & Run Collision

LEONIA, NJ.- On Monday, following an investigation, a 34-year-old North Bergen, New Jersey, man was taken into custody and charged in connection with running down an elderly woman last Thursday in Leonia, New Jersey, and then fleeing the scene, leaving the woman critically injured in the roadway.
According to Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella, on Thursday, July 10, 2025, shortly after 4:30 a.m., members of the Leonia Police Department responded to a report of an elderly woman lying alongside the roadway on Grand Avenue near the intersection of Ames Avenue in the Borough of Leonia.
Police Officers Respond To A Pedestrian Hit & Run
Upon arrival, Police Officers found an elderly woman lying on the ground, suffering from multiple injuries consistent with being struck by a motor vehicle. The woman was immediately transported to Hackensack University Medical Center, where she underwent treatment for critical injuries. During the initial investigation, Responding Police Officers determined that the woman had been struck by a motor vehicle that had fled the scene.
During the ensuing investigation, Detectives of the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit, the Bergen County Fatal Accident Task Force, and the Leonia Police Department determined that the 77-year-old woman was attempting to cross Grand Avenue near the intersection of Ames Avenue when she was struck by a motor vehicle that fled the area.
Detectives Identify Jimenez-Luna As The Driver Of The Vehicle
During further investigation, Detectives identified and located the vehicle, a 2012 red Toyota Sienna minivan, belonging to Osmary Jimenez-Luna, 34, of North Bergen, New Jersey, and further determined that Jimenez-Luna was driving the vehicle, which struck the woman and then fled the scene.
Accordingly, on Monday, July 14, 2025, Jimenez-Luna was taken into custody and charged with third-degree Knowingly Leaving the Scene of an Accident Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury; and fourth-degree Endangering an Injured Victim. Jimenez-Luna was also issued multiple motor vehicle violations by the Leonia Police Department.
Jimenez-Luna was processed on the charges and was remanded to the Bergen County Jail, pending future court proceedings in Bergen County Superior Court in Hackensack, New Jersey.
