Waterbury Convicted Felon Sentenced For Federal Gun Crime

NEW HAVEN, CT.- A 36-year-old Waterbury, Connecticut, man, with a long criminal history, will be spending nearly the next five years after being sentenced on Tuesday for selling a firearm to a confidential informant late last year in Waterbury, Connecticut.
According to U.S. Attorney David X. Sullivan, on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, Antonio Molina-Montalvo, 36, of Waterbury, Connecticut, appeared in the U.S. District Court for the District of Connecticut and was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Victor A. Bolden to 58 months in federal prison, to be followed by three years of supervised release for being a Prohibited Person in Possession of a Firearm, Convicted Felon.
According To Court Documents
According to charging documents filed with the District Court, on October 15, 2024, during an ongoing firearms investigation, Molina-Montalvo sold a Harrington & Richardson 1871 Handi Rifle and 39 rounds of ammunition to an informant in exchange for $300.
Federal law prohibits a person with a prior felony conviction or a misdemeanor conviction for domestic violence from owning or possessing firearms and ammunition.
Molina-Montalvo knew that when he possessed and sold the firearm on October 15, 2024, he was a prohibited person due to prior felony convictions, including Connecticut State convictions for assault, possession with intent to sell narcotics, strangulation, harassment, burglary, and larceny.
Molina-Montalvo has been detained since his arrest on October 21, 2024, on unrelated state charges. Appeared in the U.S. District Federal Court in New Haven, Connecticut, on March 28, 2025, and pleaded guilty to the charge for which he was sentenced on Tuesday.
U.S. Attorney Sullivan commended the investigative work of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, which led to the successful prosecution of Molina-Montalvo.
