According To The Charging Documents Filed With The Court
According to the charging information filed with the Superior Court, on July 2, 2023, shortly before 5:30 p.m., members of the South Toms River Police Department conducted a motor vehicle inquiry on a 2016 Chevrolet Impala, which was parked at the Wawa convenience store. During the records check, Police Officers learned that the registration on the Impala had expired.
As the Impala exited the Wawa parking lot, Police Officers conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle. During the traffic stop, Police Officers discovered Reid operating the Impala with a passenger. When Reid could not provide proof of a valid registration and proof of insurance, Police Officers ordered Reid and his male passenger to exit the Impala.
After exiting the Impala, a South Toms River Police K9 unit performed an open-air sniff of the vehicle and alerted Police Officers to a positive narcotics alert. During a subsequent search of the Impala, Police Officers located and seized a quantity of methamphetamine and a loaded Taurus 9mm semi-automatic handgun. After finding the narcotics and the firearm, both Reid and his passenger were taken into custody and charged accordingly. During the arrest procedure, Police Officers learned that Reid had a prior felony conviction for unlawfully possessing a firearm.
During Tuesday’s plea hearing, Reid took responsibility for the crimes, exonerating his passenger, and the charges were dismissed against the individual.
