According to Middlesex County Prosecutor Yolanda Ciccone, David Wesley of Perth Amboy, New Jersey, was formally charged with second-degree Aggravated Assault; Unlawful Possession of a Weapon; Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose; Endangering the Welfare of a Child; Hindering Apprehension; and Receiving Stolen Property.
Wesley was taken into custody earlier this week. He was processed on the charges and was remanded to the Middlesex County Adult Correctional Center, pending future court proceedings in Middlesex County Superior Court in New Brunswick, New Jersey.
Charges Stem From An Investigation
The charges stem from an investigation that began on July 7, 2025, when, shortly after 11:00 p.m., members of the Perth Amboy Police Department responded to a 911 Emergency Call reporting shots being fired inside a residence located on Cortlandt Street in the City of Perth Amboy.
Upon arrival, Police Officers located a 5-year-old girl suffering from a gunshot wound. The child was transported to a nearby hospital, where she underwent treatment, and as of yesterday, she remains in stable condition.
During the ensuing investigation, Detective Robert Torres of the Perth Amboy Police Department and Detective Olivia Ankudowicz of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office determined that Wesley, the child’s father, discharged the firearm inside the residence, striking and injuring his 5-year-old daughter.
Anyone with additional information regarding this investigation is asked to contact Detective Torres at (732) 324-3879 or Detective Ankudowicz at (732) 745-8083. All calls and information will be kept confidential.
