BOSTON, MA.- A 36-year-old Ashland, Massachusetts, man, if convicted, is potentially facing up to 60 years in federal prison after he was indicted last Monday by a federal grand jury in Boston, Massachusetts, on multiple counts of federal child pornography offenses.

According to U.S. Attorney Leah B. Foley, on Monday, July 14, 2025, a Federal Grand Jury for the District of Massachusetts returned an indictment charging Brent Vreeland, 36, of Ashland, Massachusetts, with one count of Transportation of Child Pornography; one count of Receipt of Child Pornography; and one count of Possession of Child Pornography. Vreeland has remained in federal custody since his initial arrest on April 23, 2025.

According To The Charging Information Unsealed In The Indictment

According to the charging information unsealed in the indictment, Vreeland was flagged for a secondary screening at Boston’s Logan International Airport upon arrival from Reykjavik, Iceland, in October 2024. The indictment alleges that during a review of Vreeland’s cellular phone, Customs and Border Patrol Officers uncovered digital images and video files depicting the sexual exploitation and abuse of children in a Telegram Messenger app.

A subsequent forensic examination of Vreeland’s cellular phone uncovered around 30 media files depicting child pornography in direct messages with other unidentified Telegram users. It is further alleged that Vreeland received and distributed three such video files in October 2021, depicting the sexual exploitation and abuse of children between the ages of four and ten years old. It is also alleged that in one exchange, Vreeland asked another user to trade child pornography files containing young children.

If convicted at trial, Vreeland faces, on each count, a mandatory minimum of five years and up to 20 years in federal prison, at least five years and up to a lifetime of supervised release, and a fine of up to $250,000. At sentencing, upon a finding of guilt, a U.S. District Court Judge would determine the term of imprisonment based on the seriousness of the offenses and Vreeland’s prior criminal history, if any.

“The rules of the court require us to include a statement that states: The charges outlined in this publication are merely accusations, and the defendant and or defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond reasonable doubt.”
