EDISON, NJ.- On Wednesday, a 46-year-old Plainfield, New Jersey, man learned he will die in New Jersey State Prison, after being sentenced for fatally gunning down his pregnant ex-girlfriend outside her Edison, New Jersey, home in September of 2021.
According to Middlesex County Prosecutor Yolanda Ciccone, on Wednesday, July 23, 2025, Shakir Tyler, 46, of Plainfield, New Jersey, appeared in Middlesex County Superior Court and was sentenced by Superior Court Judge Thomas Abode to Life in State Prison after being found guilty earlier this year for the September 4, 2021, shooting death of Tayeesha Webb, 35, of Edison, New Jersey.

Jury Finds Tyler Guilty In February 2025
On February 6, 2025, following a two-week trial before Judge Abode, a jury found Tyler guilty of first-degree Murder; second-degree Unlawful Possession of a Weapon; and Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose. In handing down the sentence on Wednesday, Judge Abode sentenced Tyler to a term of life for the murder conviction and additionally sentenced Tyler to a concurrent 10-year term for the weapons convictions.
During the trial, Middlesex County Special Victims Unit Section Chief Lynn Seborowski and Middlesex County Assistant Prosecutor Emily Millner presented evidence that proved beyond a reasonable doubt that Tyler confronted his then-pregnant ex-girlfriend, Ms. Webb, outside her Edison residence. During the confrontation, Tyler pulled out a handgun and fatally shot Ms. Webb on September 4, 2021.
Following the shooting, Tyler fled the area to avoid arrest, but was later apprehended in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
Prosecutor Ciccone would like to thank the Edison and Allentown, Pennsylvania Departments for their outstanding work in helping secure justice for Tayeesha Webb.
