NORTH ARLINGTON, NJ.- On Tuesday, following a months-long child sex crimes investigation, a 34-year-old Milwaukee, Wisconsin, man was taken into custody and jailed after being charged in connection with the sexual extortion and the online stalking of a North Arlington, New Jersey, preteen.
According to Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella, on Friday, March 7, 2025, the North Arlington Police Department contacted Detectives of the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Cyber Crimes Unit after receiving a report regarding a preteen child who was being sexually extorted by a stranger online. Following receiving the report Detectives of the Bergen County Cyber Crimes Unit and the North Arlington Police Department immediately launched an investigation.
During the initial phase of the investigation, Detectives quickly determined that the online stranger was most likely an adult who was sextorting the preteen child.
Over the next few months, Detectives determined that the online stranger engaged the child in sexually explicit online conversations, sent sexually explicit photos of himself to the child, requested that the child send him sexually explicit images, and made threats to expose the child’s online activities and photos while continually contacting the preteen child from different phone numbers. During the extensive and exhaustive investigation, Detectives were able to identify the perpetrator as Christopher Battin, 34, of Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
Accordingly, on Thursday, June 26, 2025, a warrant was issued for Battin’s arrest on the charges of second-degree Aggravated Sexual Extortion of a Child Under the Age of Thirteen; third-degree Endangering the Welfare of a Child; fourth-degree Lewdness; and fourth-degree Stalking.
On Tuesday, July 22, 2025, with the assistance of the U.S. Marshals Service, Battin was located and taken into custody in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and was remanded to the Milwaukee County Jail on a fugitive from justice warrant, pending extradition back to Bergen County, New Jersey.
