HARRISBURG, PA.- On Monday, July 21, 2025, Acting U.S. Attorney John C. Gurganus reported that the Former Assistant Director of Central Pennsylvania Youth Ministries, Daniel Reed, 51, of Thompsontown, Pennsylvania, was taken into custody and charged in connection with federal child pornography offenses.
Reed was formally charged by federal criminal complaint with one count of Attempted Production of Child Pornography; one count of Production of Child Pornography; and one count of Possession of Child Pornography.
According To The Charing Information Filed In The Complaint
According to Acting U.S. Attorney Gurganus, the criminal complaint alleges that Central Pennsylvania Youth Ministries received a report from an adult woman who reported she was groomed into a sexual relationship with Reed when she was between fourteen and seventeen years old. The complaint further alleges that, following the report, a “peephole” and a two-way mirror were discovered in the second-floor hallway closet of the Youth Ministries, exposing a clear view into the second-floor bathroom, which had a shower.
Following the woman’s report and after uncovering the peephole and the two-way mirror, Investigators executed a court-authorized search warrant at Reed’s Thompsontown, Pennsylvania, residence. During the search, Investigators seized an electronic device that contained internet searches regarding the use of hidden cameras for unlawful purposes. It also included a text message to a group that included two 16-year-old girls, suggesting that Reed encouraged them to use the shower at the Youth Ministries’ facility.
Additionally, on a hard drive seized from the residence, Investigators discovered at least seven nude images of minor girls from the second-floor bathroom shower at the Youth Ministries facility, and additional digital images of other children in other bathrooms and bedrooms. All the digital images appeared to have been taken from a hidden camera.
If convicted at trial on all charges filed in the criminal complaint, Reed faces a maximum penalty of 70 years in federal prison, a minimum term of at least five years, and up to a lifetime of supervised release, as well as a fine of up to $500,000.
